I must admit that I am not a big follower of the NBA.
It is not because I hate the game or anything like that. Rather, it is just something I am not interested in following.
With that said, things have changed for me a bit over the past few weeks. Living in New York, I may have a case of "New York Knicks" fever.
After tonight's 102-90 win over the NBA-best Miami Heat, my interest has grown to another level. With the win, the Knicks now have 48 wins and deserve to be taken seriously after beating the Heat in three of four games this season.
One major reason that the Knicks need to be considered in the East is the play of Carmelo Anthony. Anthony had 50 points tonight and when he is on his game, he is truly one of the best pure scorers in the NBA.
Another reason the Knicks should be feared come postseason time is that they are an extremely streaky team. This season, Knicks' fans have seen unbelievable stretches of good basketball and at the same time, have seen unbelievable stretches of terrible basketball.
Right now, the Knicks are on one of their stretches of great basketball as the team has won nine straight games. In some of the games, the team simply took care of business by beating teams that they should beat while in others, such as against the Boston Celtics and the Heat, they took their game to another level to pull out a victory.
Again, I may not be a big fan of the NBA. Heck, I am not even a casual follower.
With that said, the Knicks' recent play has me thinking otherwise and getting interested in following another New York team that has a chance to make a lot of noise in Madison Square Garden come April, May and June.
