Five Quick Thoughts on This Year's MLB Season

With Major League Baseball now in full swing, I figured now would be a good time to share  five of my thoughts about what has gone on around the league so far this year.

  • Toronto Blue Jays' pitcher RA Dickey is clearly not fit to pitch in the American League. The AL contains a lot more heavy hitters and more offense in general. Dickey has not looked remotely close to his CY Young form of last season and for him to get better, he must develop another pitch for his arsenal besides the knuckleball.
  • Many people were counting out the Yankees going into the season due to the injuries they had and their aging roster. Don't look now but the team is now .500 on the season thanks to a streaking offense and some solid pitching from the likes of CC Sabathia and Andy Pettite.
  • Speaking of New York baseball teams, I have been impressed with the play of the Mets so far. They may not have a lineup of all stars or anything like but they have a lot of young talent that plays the game the right way and that have helped the team to a 5-3 record so far.
  • Another team in the National League East that has impressed me is the Atlanta Braves. At 7-1, they are currently the best team in baseball and are getting great production from the Upton brothers.
  • With Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim pitcher Jered Weaver expected to miss some time due to a broken bone in his left elbow, one has to wonder how the rest of the Angels' rotation and its bullpen are going to respond. As of this writing, the team is 19th in the league with a 4.55 ERA and with the team at 2-5 this season, the pressure will be on the pitching to be a lot better than it has been thus far.
